Do for the Glory of the Lord

What we do or will do is to Glory the Lord. We can look and see that probably more than we would like to admit never was very glorifying to the Lord. Even when we look to Scripture and are reminded that in Jeremiah 29:11 the Lord Himself says- “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

For most people we feel that we have to do something that brings us closer to God. However, in contrast it is actually not what we do but why we do it.

It can be honorable and even logical to do something but the question becomes why do I do it. There is a difference between doing something that we believe is of the Lord and doing something that we know is of the Lord.

We are all guilty at times of doing but the question is-was it unto the Lord? So how do I distinguish between the two?

Anyone can be busy in doing. It is simply ritual and nothing more than habit. Yet in contrast to do as unto the Lord identifies and acknowledges a major change in for whom and to whom am I doing this for.

When we do, whether consciously or unconsciously, things that Glorify and proclaim the truth of the Lord then we are on solid ground. Therefore, when those same conscience or unconscious events occur and we are the focus of the recognition, being our wants and desires, then we are not able to Glorify or proclaim the truth of the Lord. We are simply doing what we want and not what will Glorify the Lord.

It is difficult to do but something we must strive for and that is to get out of God’s way and let Him use us for His Glory. Paul told the Christians in Corinth in his first letter in chapter 10 verse 31 “Whatever your do, do it all for the Glory of God.”

A thought to ponder.
