A Servant

“Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God” – Romans 1:1. As I read this verse this morning, I had to pause. Paul was a servant for Jesus. He served Jesus with all that he had, and he did so with such passion. If you keep reading, Paul says that he is “eager to preach the gospel” (verse 15). He is eager! He cannot wait to preach the gospel to these people! Now we may ask, “Why or how is he so eager?”. Paul responds to that in the next verse as he boldly proclaims, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek” (verse 16). He was so eager and ready to share the gospel because he was not ashamed. He had nothing to be ashamed about and neither do we. Paul states in 2 Timothy 1:12, “But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed”. Notice here that Paul says “whom” not “what”. It is not about what we believe but in whom we believe in! As believers in Christ, we believe in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! We believe that we are saved in and through Him alone. For “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to son and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed” (1 Peter 2:24). Paul was a servant of Jesus. Are you? If not, how can you be a servant of Jesus today?
